Born in 1930, Xu Qingrui is a professor of management, with research direction in developing and technological innovation management, system dynamics, production management and business strategy management.

As an important pioneer and founder of Chinese theory on technological innovation management, Prof. Xu initially put forward the idea that enterprise is the core of technological innovation at home and proposed the combined mode of technological innovation worldwide. He also raised the dynamic mode of technological innovation, innovative strategic planning based on core competence, enterprise technological innovation system, and accumulating and developing patterns of technical capacity. Prof. Xu built the first domestic doctoral section of engineering management in Zhejiang University. He published Management of Technological Innovation, the first book on the technological innovation discipline in China, and established Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, the earliest academic journal on engineering management in China.
