School of Art and Archaeology of Zhejiang University convened a meeting of “The Symposium of Chinese Isotopic Archaeology”
Up to now, the application of stable isotope analysis technology in archaeological research has been carried out in China for 35 years. Although this research shows a trend of vigorous development, there are some problems that need to be rethought. In order to better summarize the previous research experience, reflect on the shortcomings, look forward to the future and put forward the academic standards, the The Symposium of Chinese Isotopic Archaeology was held at Huabei Hotel in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on October 18-19, 2019. Professor Xiang Longyuan, executive deputy head of the Department of Archaeology, Cultural Heritage and Museology, School of Art and Archaeology, Zhejiang University attended the meeting, and associate professor Guo Yi presided over the opening ceremony.
The meeting is sponsored by the Department of Archaeology, Cultural Heritage and Museology, School of Art and Archaeology, Zhejiang University, and co-organized by the Institute of Social Sciences, Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Zhijiang Youth Social Science Association. A total of 45 scholars from different universities participated in the meeting, they were from University of Tokyo, University of Tsukuba, Institute of Archaeology,Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fudan University, Lanzhou University, Sichuan University, Shandong University, Xiamen university, Sun Yat-sen University, Shaanxi Normal University, Shanxi University, Jiangsu Normal University, Northwest University, Liaoning Normal University, Wuhan University, Zhejiang provincial museum.A total of 26 papers and abstracts were received, covering the first line of stable isotope archaeological practice and theoretical analysis, correlation studies in related fields and critical reflections on stable isotope research and analysis in different regions.and analysis in different regions.
First, experts in field archaeology, geology and environmental archaeology, animal archaeology, physical anthropology and other fields put forward their own understanding, suggestions and opinions on the development of stable isotope archaeology in China. After that, scholars and students in the field of stable isotope archaeology expounded the problems, perplexities and thoughts encountered in the research.In this way, through the combination of criticism and self-criticism, the participants fully reflected on the research status and problems of stable isotope archaeology in China, and reached the consensus.After full discussion, the meeting put forward The Initiative On the Development of Stable Isotope Archaeology In China, and pointed out the basic development direction of stable isotope archaeology in China.
