Published:2011-06-16

On 7th June, 2011, Prof. Zarate from Paris International Oriental Language College gave a special lecture entitled “Interpretation of French Culture” for our French-major students at the invitation of Institute of French Language & Culture, SIS.

Prof. Zarate started by introducing the concept of “culture interpretation” – research on everything in the daily life. Then, she introduced the basic procedures of culture interpretation through some pictures and texts as living examples, namely, raising a question, answering it, looking for explanation, and getting enlightenment. Prof. Zarate mentioned that cultural interpretation, which is a very interesting and delicate work, rooted in the difference between Chinese and French value system.

At the end of the lecture, students presented Prof. Zarate a souvenir. Prof. Zarate encouraged the students to be bold in making assumptions but be careful in proving them in their future study and research.
