Professor Paul J Bailey from University of Durham, gave lectures to students of 2012 China Studies

From Sep.10. on,  Professor Paul J Bailey, director of the China Studies Program in  the University of Durham, Britain, gave lectures on WOMENAND SOCIO-CULTURAL CHANGE IN TWENTIETH CENTURY CHINA to students of 2012 China Studies. These lectures mainly concerned topics such as ‘Women Question’ under the unsettled social reform in Late Qing and Early Republic and Women’s status in Modern China. These lectures were centered on four aspects: The Origins of the ‘Woman Question’ (funü wenti) in the Late Qing and Early Republic (1890s-1921), Revolution, Modernity and Chinese Women in the 1920s and 1930s, Women and Socio-Political Change in Mao’s China (1950s and 1960s), The Impact of Post-Mao Reforms on Urban and Rural Women. The lectures were profound and meticulous, and they were well-received by the students.


   


The lectures given by Professor Paul J Bailey are part of Overseas China Studies courses for China Studies. Furthermore, professors from University of Copenhagen, University of Turin and other international famous universities will offer courses for students of China Studies. These courses jointly constitute the Overseas China Studies courses, and they expend the overseas view of the professional studies
