The Founding Ceremony of Zhejiang University—University of Nottingham Centre for Research on China and Global Economic Policy (CGEP)
The founding ceremony of CGEP co-established by ZhejiangUniversity and the University of Nottingham was held in School of Economics, Zhejiang University on 28th October, 2012. The ceremony was chaired by Professor Huang Xianhai, Vice President of School of Economics. Those present at the ceremony included Research Fellow Ren Shaobo, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University, Professor Yu Xunda, President of Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Jin Xiangrong, Executive Vice President of School of Economics, Professor Kevin Lee, President of School of Economics at University of Nottingham, Profesor Zhao Wei, Chinese Director of the Center, Professor Chris Milner, British Director of the Center. In addition, the members of CGEP, including Professor Xiao Wen, Professor Pan Shiyuan, Associate Professor Li Jie, Associate Professor Song Huasheng, Associate Professor Zhu Xiwei, etc. were also present.
First, Research Fellow Ren Shaobo announced the establishment of the Center and conveyed his congratulations. Professor Yu Xunda announced the members of the academic committee of the Center. Then, Professor Jin Xiangrong, on behalf of ZhejiangUniversity and Professor Kevin Lee, on behalf of University of Nottingham signed a cooperative agreement.
Professor Zhao Wei, Professor Kevin Lee, Professor Chris Milner, Professor Daniel Bernhofen delivered lectures on the undertakings of the Center. Professor Zhao Wei, on the one hand, looked back on the research achievements he made in the recent years; on the other, expressed his confidence on the future of the Center with the support from the research team. Professor Kevin Lee said CGEP should make researches on the global economic governance evolution and prospects based on the global influence of the surging Chinese economy. Professor Chris Milner highlighted the importance of technological innovation and the Chinese economic transformations and upgrading as well as the theoretic frontiers faced by the Center.
CGEP, a joint academic institution subordinate to Zhejiang University, aims at building up a comprehensive academic institution for academic exchanges, cooperative researches and policy researches and consultancy by integrating the research resources and international influence of Center for Global Economic Policy, University of Nottingham and the academic resources of Zhejiang University in researches on Chinese economy and global economic policies. For that purpose, several cooperative researches will be carried out for providing consultancy for the decision-making of government organs and enterprises. Academic conferences or policy forums will be held on tackling key academic and policy issues. In addition, financial support will be given to the mutual visits and academic exchanges between economic researchers and students of two schools. Besides, an autonomous database for the Chinese and global economic growth will be built based on the field research on Chinese economic development statistics.
