Wang Chongming Honored as the First “Senior Professor of Humanities” in Zhejiang University
On 20th December, 2012, Professor Wang Chongming from the School of Management was honored as the first senior professor of Humanities by ZhejiangUniversity. He enjoys the privileges of an academician.
Senior Professor of Humanities is the highest academic position and honor in the humanities and social sciences initiated by ZhejiangUniversity. The responsibilities of the position is to “strengthen and upgrade the fundamental discipline development, initiate and guide the new interdisciplinary construction, set up and lead the key decision-making research team, construct the first-rate ‘think tank’ and ‘brain bank’”. Since the benefits enjoyed by the senior professors of Humanities are equal to the academicians, they are commonly referred to as “Humanities academicians”.
Zhu Xiaoyun, Deputy Director of Personnel Department, Zhejiang University said that the appraisal of the senior professors of Humanities went through very tough procedures and they were evaluated by the Faculty members of the ChineseAcademy of Social Sciences and senior professors of Humanities from famous universities.
Professor Wang Chongming, born in Hangzhou in 1949, obtained his master’s degree and doctor’s degree in Industrial Psychology, Department of Psychology of HangzhouUniversity in 1982 and 1987 respectively. In 1987, he got another master’s degree in Applied Psychology from Goteborg University, Sweden.
Professor Wang, long been dedicated to the teaching and studies of management psychology and organizational behaviors, human resources management and entrepreneurships, is one of the scholars with great academic influence in business management. In 2005, his paper “Strategic human resources, innovation and entrepreneurship fit: A cross regional comparative model”, proposing the systematic innovative frameworks of optimal matching between entrepreneurship strategy and human resource strategies, was published in International Journal of Manpower, which was recognized as the first “Excellent Achievement Award” in 2007 by Fudan University Management Award Foundations. In addition, he has published several books of reputation.
During his term as the Executive Vice President of School of Management, Zhejiang University from 1999 to 2009, the School of Management achieved a lot in its internationalization. He pioneered the Chinese Women Entrepreneurship Certificate Program between the School of Management, ZhejiangUniversity and the Said Business School of Oxford University and several GEP programs with Babson School of Management, America and Emlyon Business School, France. In September 2012, he was elected as one of the “Top Ten Most Revered Professors of Business Schools” in World Managers’ Summit in Hong Kong.
