Fourth International Symposium on Discourse and Multi-culture Held by Zhejiang University
The Symposium, successfully held in Hangzhou Huabei Hotel from October 24th to 26th, was hosted by Research Center for Contemporary Chinese Discourse Studies and Research Institute of Discourse and Multi-culture of Zhejiang University, attracting over 100 representatives from Britain, America, Russia, Australia, Holland, Finland, Mexico and Brazil to have discussions on discourse and multi-culture.
The scholars expressed their ideas on culture, medicine, business and women issues in 14 keynote speeches. In group discussions, the scholars held discussions on cultural reflection and innovation, cultural concepts, principles and practices in discourse studies, discourse and peace and sovereignty, discourse and cultural equality, discourse of developing countries and third-world countries, discourse and regional development, discourse and human rights, discourse and international business, discourse and gender, showing contending academic schools in different ideas and cultural backgrounds.
In addition, many foreign scholars began to highlight the Chinese development from discourse studies but Chinese scholars did few studies on the discourse of other developing countries, so the future cultural and discourse studies should stress not only Chinese development but the social development of other developing countries to further the oriental paradigm of discourse studies.
