Lin Jianhua, President of Zhejiang University Inspecting the Construction of Zhejiang University Museum of Art and Archaeology (ZUMAA)
On the afternoon of 4th April, a team headed by President Lin Jianhua, Vice President Luo Weidong of Zhejiang University inspected the ZUMAA under construction and attended a seminar on the report of the preparation of ZUMAA, in particular, its operation system and plan of operation funds, etc.
Mr. Lin Jianhua and Mr. Luo Weidong fully recognized the achievements scored by the ZUMAA in its preparation, its plans for the opening and operation; meanwhile, they hoped that non-government forces would be motivated to participate in and make contributions to the quality education of higher schools and to the inheritance of outstanding human culture. President Lin said, art history, as a basic humanities discipline, counts a lot in discipline construction, which is the key to the success of a school. The ZUMAA and high-standard discipline of art history are mutual beneficial. Mr. Lin also demanded that the museum will help Zhejiang University to be a first-class one by giving full play to its teaching function and developing itself to be an open space for humanities education and facilitating discipline construction.
In 2009, ZUMAA, a museum of art history for teaching was planned to be built by Zhejiang University, proposed and supported by Mr. Wen C. Fong, Professor Emeritus from Dept. of Art History, Princeton University and a distinguished scholar on art history and his wife Mrs. Tang Zhiming. ZUMAA was designed by New York Gluckman Mayner Architects according to the stardards of the museums of first-class universities in the world. The constrcution was initiated on 5th November, 2012 and the main part has been completed so far; equipment fitting and decoration is planned to be finished at the end of 2014 and ZUMAA is to be open in May, 2015 when Zhejiang University celebrates its 118th anniversary.
