Mr. Chen Qiaoyi, a Leading Authority on Studies of Li Daoyuan, Author of Commentary on Waterway Classic
Chen Qiaoyi, a distinguished historical geographer, leading authority on studies of Li Daoyuan and tenured professor of Zhejiang University passed away in Hangzhou on 12th February, 2015.
Chen Qiaoyi, born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang in 1923 with a former name of Chen Qingjun, used to be a professor in the Department of Geography, Hangzhou University. He held several titles, e.g. tenured professor of Department of Earth Sciences, director of Historical Geography Committee of the Geographical Society of China, advisory member of Historical Geography Committee of International Geographical Society. Besides, he visited and lectured in several universities in Japan, America, Canada, Brazil, and acted as visiting professor for Kansai University, Japan, etc. In addition, he was granted “Chinese Achievement Award for Geographical Science” in the fourth event of that kind. To sum up, having the publication of 70 works with approximately 20 million words, he scored accomplishments in Li Daoyuan studies, studies on historical geography, historical cartography, chorography, toponymy, cities, ancient capitals and translation.
