Buddhist Resource and Research Center, Zhejiang University will Cooperate with Harvard University to Build Buddhist Universal Digital Archive
On March 17th, Buddhist Resource and Research Center, Zhejiang University was established and Prof. LUO Weidong, Vice President of Zhejiang University signed a memorandum with Prof. Leonard van der Kuijp of Harvard University andPresident of International Literature Protection Foundation for the cooperativeconstruction of Buddhist Universal Digital Archive, which is to be located in Zijingang Campus.
Zhejiang University, by using comprehensive multi-disciplinary advantages and achivements in Buddhist studies, will conduct long-term cooperation with International Literature Protection Foundation and Harvard University. Based on 18,975 volumes of precious Buddhist texts and images in TBRC, they will scan and index Buddhist texts and images in Chinese mainland, Thailand, India and Japan, etc. Then the existing databases in Europe, America and Japan will be organized, collected and identified to construct a universal analysis and retrieval system so as to build a global data center for studies in Buddhism and an encyclopeadia e-library on Buddhism.
