【Speaker Introduction】：Prof. Dr. Nicole Dehé currently hold the professorship at the University of Konstanz, Germany and the adjunct professorship at the University of Iceland. Her research focuses on the prosody and intonation of Insular Scandinavian, the syntax-prosody interface in Icelandic, the syntax and prosody of North American Icelandic, and the prosody of rhetorical questions.

【Lecture Abstract】：the paper shows that all languages make statistically significant use of prosodic parameters to distinguish between ISQs and RQs. The Germanic languages tested here all make use of intonational parameters (pitch accents, boundary tones), but the ways in which these parameters are employed are language-specific. As for the phonetic parameters, similarities can be found between all languages including Mandarin.
