Abstract

In the past 40 years, China has experienced rapid industrialization and urbanization. As a result, the healthy lifestyle of Chinese people has changed a lot, leading to a rapid increase in chronic diseases to a large extent. Sociological theory shows that in this process, group members with social advantages are more inclined to do healthy behavior and thus obtain better results. This study will take smoking and weight as examples to show the evolution of the healthy lifestyle of people with different status in contemporary China. It is helpful to our understanding of the factors that lead to the inequality of population health in China.
