Dr. Sharon Rosenkoetter简介
Dr. Sharon Rosenkoetter was trained as a political scientist, special educator, teacher of young children, family educator, and researcher. She earned a BA at Valparaiso (IN) University, MA at the University of Illinois, and Ph.D. at the University of Kansas. She taught children, including those with disabilities, and families in Chicago and rural Kansas and served as a professor for 13 years for six colleges in Kansas and one year as Visiting Researcher at the Center for Child Development and Social Policy at Yale University. For the past eight years, she has been Associate Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Oregon State University (OSU). This year she serves as Co-Director of the OSU exchange program at FuJen Catholic University, Taipei, Taiwan.
Dr. Rosenkoetter studies processes that promote school success for young children, including those with disabilities. She also investigates effectiveness in service systems, leadership development, and family support. Sharon is the author of two books: Bridging Early Services: Transition Planning for Young Children with Disabilities and Their Families (1994) and Learning To Read the World: Language and Literacy in the First Three Years. A third book, Early Childhood Leadership Directions: A Map for Aspiring Leaders is in process. She has also published numerous chapters, produced four videotapes, developed numerous refereed journal articles and informative materials for parents, and created a simulation of families’ dilemmas in seeking appropriate services for their young children with disabilities. With husband Larry, she has studied ways to inoculate children against negative effects of television violence.
Dr. Rosenkoetter has worked for several years to obtain a university education for Native Americans (indigenous people) in her home state of Oregon. Teachers of young children on the Indian Reservations of the U.S. face many of the same issues of poverty and isolation that indigenous peoples have confronted in other parts of the world. As part of the present three-month exchange, Dr. Rosenkoetter, her husband, 10 OSU students, and 40 FuJen University faculty and students have worked as volunteer teachers at an aboriginal elementary school at LuoFu, Taiwan.
At OSU, Sharon teaches courses such as Children and Youth with Special Needs; Language Development; Foundations of Early Childhood Intervention; Family, School, and Community Collaboration; Families and Poverty; and Skills for Human Services Professionals. She also reviews for numerous academic journals and serves on the executive board of the International Division for Early Childhood.
Dr. Sharon Rosenkoetter has been married to husband Larry for 40 years. The couple has three children, all married, living in New York, Indiana, and California. All are teachers and researchers. The Rosenkoetters have been gifted with grandchildren ages 2, 2, and 5.
They are avid hikers and campers within North American National Parks, where they like to photograph wildlife. Their photographs have been exhibited under the title PARAGONS OF NATURE.
