过去20年以来,以传记体为特点的生活史研究方法,在西方主张社会公正与公德研究的学者中越来越受到欢迎与重视。这种研究方法在中国学界的兴起,也正是中国人文与社会科学研究中,结合与平衡社会共性和个体个性研究的重要方法,在促进社会公正与公德研究中起着尤其重要作用。
Life history research is an approach to understanding the social world which starts from, and focuses on, the personal and subjective perceptions and experiences of individual people. Life historians collect life stories which are then explicitly located within, and analysed in terms of, the wider social, cultural, political, economic and historical contexts in which they are set. Life history research has transformatory potential because of the ways in which it can illuminate and make clear the dialogic relationship between the personal and the public, the individual and the social. Looking at lives from the point of view of those who live them can help us to begin to understand why individuals faced with certain combinations of social and personal experiences take particular decisions and act in the ways that they do. Such information can be used to guide policy and practice. In this presentation (and in the associated paper) I will make a case for what I believe life history research has to
