Faculty of Humanities

  Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Zhejiang University consists of School of Humanities, School of International Studies, College of Media and International Culture. Besides, it has Academic Committee, Degree Committee, Teaching Committee and Human Resources Committee. And a comprehensive office is set up in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

  The Faculty, covering disciplines of literature, history and philosophy, consists of six first-level disciplines: Chinese language and literature, foreign language and literature, journalism and communication, art theory, history and philosophy; 38 second-level disciplines: modern and contemporary Chinese literature, world history, Chinese philosophy, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, journalism, etc., among which, study of Chinese classical text, ancient Chinese literature, English language and literature, foreign philosophy, ancient Chinese history, theory of literature and art, Chinese philology, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, communication are key provincial disciplines; study of Chinese classical text is the key national discipline and foreign philosophy is the key national cultivated discipline.

  Faculty of Arts and Humanities has 17 majors for bachelor degrees, 38 centers for master degrees and 28 for doctoral degrees, among which, philosophy, Chinese language and literature, history are first-level discipline centers for doctoral degrees; foreign language and literature, the first-level discipline center for master degrees, has two centers for postdoctoral studies: Chinese language and literature and history. In addition, the Faculty has 29 research institutes, 14 research centers; Research Center for Ancient Chinese Literature and Document, Center for Chinese and Foreign Cultural Communication History, Research Center for History of the Chinese Language, Research Institute for Ancient Chinese History, Research Institute for Foreign Literature, Research Institute for Applied Linguistics, Research Institute for Foreign Language Teaching Journals and Research Institute for German Culture are strong school-level institutes. Moreover, the Faculty has two national second-phase innovative and research bases for arts of “985 Project”: Institute of Christianity and Cross-cultural Studies and Center for Language and Cognitive Studies; one key research base of humanities and social studies of Ministry of Education: Center for History of the Chinese Language; two key research bases of humanities and social studies of Zhejiang Province: Center for Document Collection and Compilation,  Center for Studies of the Song Dynasty, one research supporting center of humanities and social studies of Zhejiang Province: Research Center for Communication and Cultural Industry and two research and talent cultivation bases for fundamental disciplines of Ministry of Education: Chinese and History.

  Faculty of Arts and Humanities, with a strong force, owns 375 teachers, among whom, 101 are professors (or research fellows), 129 associate professors (associate research fellows), 8 winners of government special subsidies by the State Council, 3 listed into the national “Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project”, 1 State Outstanding Teacher, 3 Senior Experts of Zhejiang Province, 5 Young and Mid-aged Experts with Outstanding Contribution of Zhejiang Province, 4 listed into the Program for New Century Excellent Talents, Ministry of Education and 4 professors of Qiushi Scholars Program.
