To all relevant departments and faculty members,
In order to further enhance the international engagement of Zhejiang University’s humanities and social sciences faculty, expand the global influence of humanities and social sciences, and elevate the university’s international reputation, Zhejiang University will continue to offer the Zeng Xianzi International Exchange Fund in 2026. The application for the first round of this year is now open. The Fund consists of two categories: “International Conference Support for Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Humanities and Social Sciences” and “International Collaborative Research Support for Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Humanities and Social Sciences.”
I. Eligibility
(A) International Conference Support for Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Humanities and Social Sciences
1. Applicants must be young and middle-aged teachers in humanities and social sciences under the age of 45.
2. Applicants should demonstrate strong research capabilities and proficiency in foreign language communication, and actively participate in and promote international academic exchanges.
3. Applicants must have an academic paper accepted (including for presentation, keynote speech, etc.) by a high-level international academic conference in their field held outside mainland China.
4. Each applicant may receive this funding only once every three years.
(B) International Collaborative Research Support for Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Humanities and Social Sciences
1. Applicants must have been employed at Zhejiang University for at least two years and be under the age of 45.
2. Applicants should demonstrate strong research capabilities and proficiency in foreign language communication, and actively participate in and promote international academic collaboration.
3. Applicants must have a clear collaborative research plan along with a formal cooperative research agreement or letter of intent. Priority will be given to faculty who have established collaborative foundations with top overseas universities or research institutions.
4. The research period generally should not exceed six months. Each applicant may receive this funding only once every three years.
II. Funding Method and Amount
(A) International Conference Support for Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Humanities and Social Sciences
1. The Fund provides partial support for international travel expenses related to conference attendance. The specific amount will be determined based on the conference location and the number of available grants for the year, with a general range of RMB 5,000 to 20,000.
(B) International Collaborative Research Support for Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Humanities and Social Sciences
1. The Fund provides partial support for expenses related to overseas collaborative research, including costs for study, living, and international travel. The specific amount will be determined based on the research location and the number of available grants for the year, with a general range of RMB 20,000 to 50,000.
III. Application and Review Procedure
(A) International Conference Support for Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Humanities and Social Sciences
1. Applicants must complete the Application Form for International Conference Support under the Zeng Xianzi International Exchange Fund of Zhejiang University and submit it to their school/department for preliminary review. (The application must include the official conference invitation letter.)
2. After passing the school/department review, the application will be submitted to the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences.
3. The Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences will conduct the final review and approval based on the significance and cutting-edge nature of the conference.
(B) International Collaborative Research Support for Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Humanities and Social Sciences
1. Applicants must complete the Application Form for International Collaborative Research Support under the Zeng Xianzi International Exchange Fund of Zhejiang University and submit it to their school/department for preliminary review. (The application must include an invitation letter or collaborative research plan.)
2. After passing the school/department review, the application will be submitted to the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences. In principle, each school/department may recommend one candidate. If exceptionally outstanding projects require additional recommendations, they must be ranked in priority order.
3. The Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences will conduct the final review and approval based on the significance and cutting-edge nature of the project.
IV. Application Deadline
The deadline for the first round of applications in 2026 is Friday, February 27, 2026. Staff from each school/department’s research office are requested to compile and submit the electronic versions of the application forms and related materials to the designated email address by the deadline. One signed and stamped copy of the application form, approved by the school/department’s research leadership, should be delivered to Room 709, Building 3, Chengjunyuan.

Note: If there are changes to the planned travel date or location after receiving the grant, applicants must resubmit their application materials. The Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences will reevaluate the application based on the actual circumstances.
