China Academy of West Region Development (CAWD) of Zhejiang University Visited Kampuchea, Laos and Sri Lanka
“Belt and Road Initiative” has been implemented since 2013, in order to deepen the cooperation with international educational institutions, from May 27 to June 5, 2018, Professor Zhou Guping, President of CAWD, Director of The Collaborative Innovation Center for the Belt and Road Initiative, led a delegation to visit Confucius Institute of Royal Academy, Royal Academy for Judicial Profession, Industrial Technical Institute, Ministry of Finance, Department of Labor and Occupation Training, in Cambodia; Suzhou University, Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce, in Laos; Explorer Foundation, Colombo National University, Department of Vocational Training, in Sri Lanka; along with other important colleges, government departments and think tanks.
CAWD has visited educational institutions and government departments in Cambodia, Laos and Sri Lanka. Xia Xiulong, Dean of Confucius Institute of Royal Academy of Cambodia, introduced the historical development, educational potential and present challenges of the institute, upon which President Chen presented their suggestion and initiative via Chinese educational experience. At the Royal Academy for Judicial Profession, on the topic of judicial education cooperation under the framework of Belt and Road, CAWD team has an insightful discussion with President Chhorn Proloeung, Vice President Bunyay Narin, and Khuth Seang ai, Dean of Department of International Relation. Besides, during the visit to Industrial Technical Institute in Cambodia, CAWD exchanged ideas with President Moan San Oeurn on technical education and the cooperation between enterprises and colleges.
In Sri Lanka, the former Chinese ambassador and the founder of Explorer Foundation, Mr. Bernard Goonetilleke signed the memorandum of cooperation on human resources training and exchange, scientific research and policy consultancy. Lakshman Dissanayake, Vice President at Colombo National University, and Manjula Vithanapathirana, Dean of School of Education, hold the conference with CAWD on the development of Asia Universities Alliance and the hope for future cooperation.
Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, as significant partners along the Belt and Road, are regarded as strong potential cooperators with CAWD Zhejiang University to carry out seminars, international personnel trainings, high-end think tank construction to support international Belt and Road cooperation and prosperity.
