Center for Buddhist Culture Studies, Zhejiang University
Center for Buddhist Culture Studies, Zhejiang University was established on March 23, 2010. It is administratively affiliated to School of Humanities and operationally governed by Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, whose director is Prof. Dong Ping.
Paying attention to the combination of basic researches and practical application, Center for Buddhist Culture Studies aims to present the essence of Chinese Buddhism, strengthen exchanges and contacts with Buddhist research institutions at home and abroad, and promote Buddhist studies in ZJU.
Center for Buddhist Culture Studies was co-built by School of Humanities and Hangzhou Lingyin Temple, the famous cradle of Chinese Zen and national key temple. Zhejiang University and Lingyin Temple share a deep relationship; its students protected the latter from destruction in 1966.
Center for Buddhist Culture Studies mainly conducts comprehensive researches on Chinese Buddhism, including its dogmata, history and literature. At present, it has completed the sorting and publishing of “Collection of Buddhist Literature in Hangzhou”, and undertaken many projects, such as the major tender project of Ministry of Education “Collection of Historical Biography of Chinese Buddhism”.
