Established on December 29, 2009, Zhejiang University-Hangzhou City Research Center for Service Industry Development is an important part and working platform of strategic cooperation between Zhejiang University and Hangzhou City. With the open and networked construction concept and management mode, it integrates advantages of disciplines and talents in Zhejiang University, and strives to become a think tank and decision-making consulting center of Hangzhou and service enterprises, training base for high-level talents in the service industry of Hangzhou and database and information platform for the modern service industry of Hangzhou. Zhejiang University-Hangzhou City Research Center for Service Industry Development has carried out a series of researches on major practical and frontier issues in the development of modern service industry of Hangzhou. 

So far, nearly 40 research projects have been completed, five of which have become policy documents of Hangzhou. More than 60 research reports have been adopted by National Development and Reform Commission, Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou City, five of which have been commented by main provincial and municipal leaders. Since its foundation, it has also organized a number of international and domestic academic conferences, published two monographs and actively explored new organizations and operations in innovative talents training, cooperative researches, national and local governmental cooperation, business cooperation and other aspects. In 2011, after discussion and evaluation of the leading group for liberal arts development, Zhejiang University-Hangzhou City Research Center for Service Industry Development won the honorary title of Top Ten Excellent Research Centers of Zhejiang University.
