International Symposium for Regional Economy, China, Korea and Japan, 2012 Successfully Held

The Symposium, sponsored by ZhejiangUniversity, Korean Regional Economy Association, Japan Fukushima Government (Shanghai Office), Japan Okinawa Government (Shanghai Office), Zhejiang University Research Institute on Regional and Urban Development, Zhejiang University Research Institute on Government and Enterprises and Zhejiang University Urban Development and Management Department, was held in ZhejiangUniversity successfully in December, 2012. The distinguished guests present at the Symposium included Researcher Song Boo Yong, the newly-elected Director of Korean Regional Economy Association and Kyungnam Development Research Institute, Kim Il Tae, Director of Gwangju Chonnam Branch of Korean Regional Economy Association and Professor of Chonnam National University, Song Hae Ann, Director of Jeonbuk Branch of Korean Regional Economy Association and Professor of Jeonju University, Kang Tong Hee, Professor of Economics at Korean Kunsan National University, Keum Jung Hoon, secretary at Korean Regional Economy Association and other Japanese guests.

 

Opening Ceremony

This Symposium was held against the increasingly uncertain global economy, more complicated east-Asian politics and economy and the start of the Chinese, Japanese and Korean Free Trade Zone negotiations. More than 40 professors, scholars and government officials on regional economics and industrial economics from China, Japan and Korea dealt with the regional and urban development, industrial rejuvenation and transformation of three countries. Professor Chen Jianjun, Executive Director of Zhejiang University Regional and UrbanDevelopmentResearchCenter chaired the opening ceremony and delivered his welcoming speech. He said that the theme for the Symposium was the cooperation and mutual win between the three countries in the regional and urban development. He wished success of the Symposium.


Professor Yu Jianxing, Vice President of the School of Public Administration, on behalf of ZhejiangUniversity, expressed his congratulations and said that the three countries had close reliance on each other in geography, politics, economy and culture. With the economic cooperation and commercial contacts, the three countries is to be the third economic community in the world.


The Korean professors and Japanese officials also made keynote speeches in the Symposium. Twelve papers on regional, urban and industrial economy were read and the representatives visited Xitang Town of Jiashan County and Zijingang Campus of ZhejiangUniversity.


The Symposium has been a key platform for the cooperations and communications between the Chinese, Korean and Japanese regional economists.
