The 2012 ICVEM, sponsored by the Chinese Society of Technology Economics, the Society of Management Science of China, Chinese Society of Value Engineering, Hong Kong Institution of Value Management, was held in Hong KongPolytechnicUniversity. Experts, scholars and rising academic stars from the mainland China, Hong Kong, America, Australia and Malaysia were present at the Conference. Mr. Enoch T. S. LAM, Deputy Secretary General of Hong Kong SAR Development Bureau was present and delivered his opening remarks.

The theme of the Conference was “Innovation in the Value Methodology” and 15 academic reports, covering the excellent research fruits of value engineering management, e.g. method innovation of value engineering, the application of value engineering methods in architecture, public facilities designs and product industrial designs were done.

Professor Chimay J. ANUMB from the University of Pennsylvania made a keynote speech on the application of value engineering in the architecture. Henry John Gough, Director of Australian Value Engineering Association made a speech on the application of value engineering management in the real estate industry.

Besides, Professor Ma Qingguo, Director of Value Engineering Committee of Chinese Research Institute of Technology Economics, Executive Deputy Director of Chinese Society of Management Science and Engineering, Chairman of the Conference delivered a speech on the milestone significance of this Conference on the research methodology of value engineering. His doctoral students, Huang Yujing and Fu Huijian, on behalf of research teams of Zhejiang University neuromanagement made two reports: “A neuroscientific approach of user demand analysis and design improvement—A case of accessory design” and “Neuro-Value analysis: A new direction for neurodesign and neuroergonomics” respectively, which showed the reforms and breakthroughs in the functional analysis research paradigms.

The Conference, supported by several key associations in Hong Kong, Canada, India, Malaysia, Korea, Japan and Australia, would definitely upgrade the international academic renown of the Chinese value engineering management in the world.
