The Workshop, co-hosted by Department of Sociology of Zhejiang University, Center for East Asian Studies at University of Chicago and Research Center for Local Government and Social Governance at Zhejiang University, was held from October 6th to 8th in Zhejiang University. Professor Luo Weidong, Vice President of Zhejiang University was present at and addressed the opening ceremony.

The Workshop is a part of the regular bilateral academic exchange program: “First-class Overseas Discipline Partnership” between Department of Sociology of Zhejiang University and Center for East Asian Studies at University of Chicago.    The Workshop, centered on the construction of civil rights and social construction in Chinese transformation, was chaired by Professor Mao Dan of Zhejiang University and Professor Zhao Dingxin from Department of Sociology at University of Chicago and scholar in “National One Thousand Scholars Program”. Over 40 scholars were present, including Professor Li Peilin, Professor Qu Jingdong from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Shen Yuan from Tsinghua University, Professor Liu Shiding and Professor Marong from Peking University, Professor Li Lulu, Professor Feng Shizheng from Renmin University of China, Professor Cai He from Sun Yat-sun University, Professor Li Youmei, Professor Zhang Wenhong, Professor Zhang Haidong from Shanghai University and professors from Department of Sociology and Department of Politics of Zhejiang University.
