Professor Bai Qianshen Became a Member of Zhejiang University
Professor Bai Qianshen, an internationally renowned expert on Chinese art history, became a full-time member of Zhejiang University on July 17. Song Yonghua, Executive Vice President of Zhejiang University extended warm welcome to him and wore school badge for him on behalf of Zhejiang University. Luo Weidong, Vice President of Zhejiang University was also present at the meeting.
Professor Bai was enrolled in Peking University in 1978 and stayed for teaching after graduation in 1982. In 1986, he went for PhD in the United States under the guidance of Professor Ban Zonghua, leading authority in Chinese art history. Professor Bai had taught in the Department of Art History at Boston University for many years. His academic monograph Fu Shan’s World: The Transformation of Chinese Calligraphy in the Seventeenth Century is one of the famous academic works in Chinese art history in the past 20 years.
After his becoming a member of Zhejiang University, Professor Bai will be a leading professional in liberal arts and contribute to the construction of art history as a professor of Academy of Cultural Heritage. Professor Bai said he would make full use of his rich teaching experience and resources abroad to promote art history of Zhejiang University in teaching, research, discipline and museum construction and he would also play an active role in the collection, exhibition, research and education programs on Art and Archaeology Museum of Zhejiang University.
