Professor ZHANG Bingjian of School of Humanities and his Team Invited to the Research-oriented Protection Project on Hall of Mental Cultivation, the Palace Museum

Recently, the “Research-oriented Protection Project on Hall of Mental Cultivation”, a large-scale project to be carried out from 2016 to 2020, was formally announced by the Palace Museum to conduct evaluation and protective restoration of the Hall, thus setting up a model for the protection of historical and cultural relics in China.

 

From March 9th to 12th, Professor ZHANG Bingjian and his team of six postgraduates from Department of Cultural Heritage and Museology, School of Humanities, upon the invitation from Department of Ancient Architecture and Director of Protection Project of Hall of Mental Cultivation of the Palace Museum, investigated and surveyed ancient architectural complexes of Hall of Mental Cultivation, completed the survey appraisal of different diseases in paintings and colored drawings of ancient architecture, measured and calculated the existing conditions and diseases of paste paper on walls, conducted the investigation, strength measurement and humidity distribution test of ground gold bricks, as well as the classification and weathering test of stone cultural relics of the whole area around the Hall of Mental Cultivation so as to make advanced cooperative plans for the future.
