A team from School of International Studies published a paper on the “Journal of Second Language Writing”
On 3rd September, 2019, “Syntactic complexity development in the writings of EFL learners: Insights from a dependency syntactically-annotated Corpus”, the latest paper of Jiang Jingyang’s team from School of International Studies, was published on Journal of Second Language Writing. And, Bi Peng, our Ph.D. candidate is one of the main authors of the paper.
The study mainly investigates the development of syntactic complexity of English composition by middle and low-level learners. It has four major innovations: firstly, it aims at middle and low-level English learners; secondly, it adopts more specific micro-complexity indicators; thirdly, it uses syntactic tagging corpus which is on the theoretical basis of dependent grammar; fourthly, it focuses on the dynamic development process of syntactic complexity from the dynamic system theory.
