International Webinar on the Green Economy and Sustainable Agri-Food Supply Chains Held
From 29th to 31st July 2020, the International Webinar on the Green Economy and Sustainable Agri-Food Supply Chains wassuccessfully held online, which was co-hosted by Zhejiang University and the University of Liverpool. Prof. Jiehong Zhou from School of Public Affairs of Zhejiang University and Dr. Dong Li from Management School of University of Liverpool initiated the webinar. With increasing concerns about climate change and environmental impact and associated risks, green development has become an important content in global governance. The realisation of green development in agriculture doe not only depend on the sustainable supply and demand of agricultural products, but also emphasise the efficient policy decisions in practice to specific social and economic environment of the county. This international webinar gave specific insights into sustainable supply and demand of food supply chain, green consumption of residents, and coordinated transformation of corresponding regulatory systems, leading a deep reflection on the promotion of green development in the context of globalization.
More than 25 scholars and experts from the UK, China, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, and other countries/regions were invited to discuss and share their insights on the theme of green economy and sustainable food supply chain, including five keynote speeches delivered by Prof Xiaohua Yu from the University of Göttingen, Dr Rui Mao from the Zhejiang University, Dr Andrew Ormerod from the Global Biotechnology Transfer Foundation, Dr Jens Thomas from the Farm Urban, and Prof Weihua Zhou from the Zhejiang University, and twenty researches shared by scholars from several countries in the field of sustainable production and distribution in agri-food supply chains, production practice and food traceability, and food safety and sustainable consumption. In addition, there are more than 90 scholars participated and had a heated discussion on the relevant topics.
Through this international webinar, some important and hot issues such as risks and resilience, food safety, sustainability/circular economy, and government regulation have inspired wide attention and heated discussion, which contributes to some possible solutions and innovations for current and future research, as well as providing a platform for scholars to build connections and enhance cooperation in the future.
