外语学院关于Robert Berold 系列诗歌研讨活动通知

Robert Berold是南非著名诗人,已经发表多部诗集。1989年到1999年期间曾编辑诗刊 New Coin,该诗刊发表了南非90年代许多颇有影响的新诗。他自己的诗歌精选集 It All Begins : poems from postliberation South Africa. 发表于2002年。目前,Robert Berold在浙江大学外国语学院任教。从11月30日到12月21日,每周三晚上6:30—8:30,他将在浙江大学紫金港校区与诗歌爱好者们作4次诗歌系列研讨活动,欢迎所有诗歌爱好者们参加研讨活动。

About the lecturer
Robert Berold, born in 1948 in Johannesburg, has lived for the last 20 years in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
For most of his working life Berold was involved with rural development NGOs, working with subsistence farmers and
the marketing of handcrafts. In the early 1980s, he edited the widely read People's Workbook, a manual of rural
practical skills written in simple English. More recently he collaborated with the visionary Lesotho agriculturalist
JJ Machobane on Machobane's autobiography, published in 2003 as Drive Out Hunger. He makes his living as an editor
of technical and environmental books, for the United Nations and the South African Water Research Commission, among others.
Berold is a wellknown poet in South Africa, with three books of poems published. From 1989 to 1999 he edited
the poetry journal New Coin, publishing much of the groundbreaking new poetry being written in South Africa in the
1990s. His anthology of the best of this
work was published in 2002 as It All Begins : poems from postliberation South Africa. and was followed by a book of
interviews titled South African poets on poetry. He has edited books by 15 contemporary South African poets,
and runs the poetry publishing press Deep South.
Robert Berold is currently spending a year teaching English in the School of International Studies at Zhejiang University
